Mississauga · Emergency Service
Power loss, burning smells and panel failures across Mississauga — Port Credit to Meadowvale, Lorne Park to Malton. Licensed electricians answering 24/7.

Mississauga is enormous. Port Credit and Meadowvale are different worlds electrically, and knowing which you're in tells us a lot before we arrive.
Alectra asks customers to check their own breakers and fuses before reporting an outage. We'll walk you through that on the phone — sometimes it ends the call.
You get the fault explained and the number agreed before work starts, whatever time it is.
Port Credit, Lakeview and Cooksville have genuinely old housing behind their renovations. Failing services and fuse panels are the recurring emergency here.
Erin Mills, Applewood, Rathwood and Erindale were built in the aluminum window. Loose terminations announce themselves as heat, smell or a scorched device.
A 1970s house running central air, a hot tub and an EV charger is asking a lot of a service sized for none of them. Mains trip, and sometimes worse.

Malton's housing is largely 1960s and 70s with a high share of semis and duplexes. Shared walls make tracing a fault its own puzzle.
The City Centre condo district is nearly all high-rise. In-suite panel faults and building access coordination are routine calls for us.
Wind and ice take masts and weatherheads down. Alectra can't reconnect until a licensed contractor has repaired it and the ESA has authorized it.

Mississauga splits neatly in two. In the older lakeshore communities — Port Credit, Lakeview, Cooksville, Clarkson — we’re usually dealing with aged services, fuse panels and pre-war wiring reaching the end of its life. Inland, across the 1960s and 70s subdivisions, the emergencies cluster around aluminum-era terminations and 100-amp services pushed past their limits by additions, hot tubs and EV chargers. Knowing which Mississauga you’re in tells us a lot before we arrive.

Alectra on 1-833-253-2872 if the outage covers your street or you can see a downed wire. Us on 647-406-7046 if it's only your property, or if a breaker keeps tripping, something smells hot, or a circuit has died. Alectra's own guidance is to check your breakers and fuses first; if resetting doesn't restore power and your neighbours are fine, it's a house fault.
Usually one of two things: a tripped breaker or blown fuse on one circuit, or — more seriously — a lost leg of the incoming service, where one of the two 120-volt legs feeding your panel has failed. The second one can leave some things working, some dead, and some behaving oddly, and it can damage appliances. If resetting breakers doesn't fix it, stop and call.
Stop using that outlet and call. Homes from that era across Erin Mills, Applewood and Rathwood commonly have aluminum branch wiring, and a scorch mark means a termination has been running hot for a while. It's fixable — usually copper pigtailing at every device rather than a rewire — but the scorched one needs attention now, not at your convenience.
Residential Alectra customers get one free isolation and re-energization per year for electrical maintenance or upgrade work during business hours. Beyond that, or outside business hours, charges apply. We schedule the disconnect as part of the job so you're not coordinating it yourself.
